On 3. September 2019, during a mayor arrangement at hotel Scandic Hell, Værnes, Mr. Stig Nerdal of Transportutvikling AS, Project Manager, presented the results of a consortium’s works during a time-span of two years, related to development of a zero-emission fast commuter craft.

The consortium comprises players with extensive theoretic knowledge and experience from developing, testing, operation and construction of fast crafts: Stadt Towing Tank AS, civil engineer Ola Lilloe Olsen, Profjord AS, FosenNamsos Sea, Siemens and Transportutvikling AS.

The energy density of environment-friendly energy carriers leads to heavier vessels, which require more energy in order to maintain speed.

In order to maintain tight schedules, the consortium suggests change of batteries when passengers embark/disembark, in two ports between Trondheim and Kristiansund, as part of the solution. It is believed that the present schedule could be maintained if efficient battery change terminals are being constructed so that passengers should not be kept waiting while the batteries are loading. It is also of importance that the batteries in this way are carefully charged ashore without time-pressure while the vessel is en route. This will increase the life-span of the batteries considerably and thereby reduce costs.
